When is a desk not a desk?

.....when it's one of these.......

I still need to move the existing handles around to even them up and find some suitable ones to replace the centre ones. A good waxing has really improved the appearance and this can only get better after a few more applications.
But...look closely! on the right hand side near the middle of the second drawer down there's a 'button' can you see it? Well, fold back the top and press the button, that's when the magic happens.
The sewing machine quite literally 'pops up', no tilting - just straight up. The centre doors push inwards to provide support for the machine. The drawers on the left are drawers, the ones on the right are false, it's a door that hides the treadle mechanism. Isn't it lovely? This isn't the machine that came with it, this is my lotus flower Singer, the treadle machine that came with it is a tired old Jones (currently living on the kitchen window sill)

Despite numerous searches around the web I haven't found another one of these, some are similar but not a single identical one. A good £25 worth if I do say so myself.

All The Tea In China...........

Hi Everyone,

Finally got a bargain this past weekend at the car boot sale, I was beginning to think I'd lost the knack!

Anyway, after the lovely coffee set I scored here I have been on the lookout for some teacups to load up the trolley and I finally found some last weekend.

In the end I paid £3 for the 3 Royal Doulton cups & saucers and another £3 for the rest. I love them!

Afternoon tea anyone?

Becoming Untied............

........Remember the blog post here where I bought a box of ties from the booty? Well I've spent a nice couple of afternoons 'dibbling' about with them.....here's what I have made so far........

Bag #1 - This one caused a bit of bother as I got halfway through the construction and realised where I wanted to put a seam was impossible and would defy the laws of physics. Plan B resulted in this.

Bag #2 - Tote size with double handles to cope with the extra capacity which usually means more weight. I found this lovely little tiepin on the market for 50p and I think it looks good. This one was about making it obvious that it was all about ties.

Bag #3 - A 'Request' from a friend who specified a pocket on the front.

Each one is lined and has nice strong magnetic closures and an inside phone pocket. I'll try some better photographs when it's a bit brighter, it's bloomin' miserable here today.

As you can see I have only started on the blue ties so far, I have some pretty awful interesting black and grey ones that I think I'll try next but first a few camera/phone/glasses cases with the 'bits' I've got left over.

They're not the easiest of things to work with as they twist and move at every opportunity but I'll have a go at a few more to see if I can refine my technique a bit.

Putting it off.........

.......I hate ironing!

The fact that most of it has been dried indoors this summer  somehow makes it even worse :0(

Every week month I swear I'll NEVER leave it to grow into a pile that looks like this..........

No,  mine wasn't quite this big
......and I still do. After nearly 30 years of married life I don't suppose I'll ever change now either.

Still, on the up side, there's that ever so slightly smug feeling that you get when you actually do 'do it', which is what I have now!

What do you put off doing?

Upcycling #1

I keep coming across beautiful upcycling ideas like this one.....
I might have to start a new page for these ideas so I don't lose them, I love these, would you put them in your garden? I know they're mushrooms but don't they have a kind of jellyfish look about them?

Have a lovely weekend
